when i was a kid my favorite game to play [on the playground] was orphans/runaways. the idea of being on my own, of being tough, appealed to me more than i could ever describe. i dreamed about it, contemplated running away, but i never even came close to trying.
even as a child, i was a realist.
sometimes i wish i had tried it. sometimes i still wish i could try it.
